"When I stand at the podium in the orchestra room, I am clearly aware that I have an extraordinary responsibility. My task is different from the freedom to conduct purely symphonic music. In opera I forget about this freedom, because I have singers in front of me for whom I have great respect and admiration. For me they are something superhuman. They work with the finest instrument, their voice, and those two vocal cords cannot be repaired or replaced. The singers are the most important and I am on the console to serve them..."
A sweet revelation from a great symphony conductor who has conducted almost everywhere in the world. From Germany, where he lives permanently, to Bulgaria to South Africa. The chief conductor of the Sofia Philharmonic Martin Panteleev will conduct the premiere performances of Verdi's opera Il Trovatore on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera on 22 and 25 May. He has not even had time to consider his decision, because the invitation of the theatre's new director Ognyan Draganov was presented without the right to answer "No". The talented musician gladly accepted the challenge and with his inherent emotionality and dedication rehearsed tirelessly with the theatre's ensemble. He creates a calm and positive atmosphere around him, and with each passing day the musical part of the work sounds more and more convincing and true. Martin Panteleev demonstrates without thinking how simple it is to be that unifying figure who actually makes the magic happen. Together with director Georgi Dinev, they tell the story of the opera Troubadour. Their story is different because they are both meeting her for the first time. To recreate it as they see it in their fantasies - without clichés and memorized numbers...
Good luck!
