The story recreates the fairytale world of "One Thousand and One Nights". The composer interweaves two main musical themes - that of Sultana Shahriar and that of Scheherazade.
The suite begins with Shahriar's heavy theme, followed by Sheherazade's lyrical motif. The music paints the stormy sea and Sinbad's majestic ship.
The story is dynamic, full of dance rhythms and exotic motifs that follow the adventures of Prince Kalender.
Lyrical melodies and tender phrases tell of the love between the prince and the princess.
The finale is bright and solemn. The music moves from a colourful oriental feast to the stormy sea and the doom of Sinbad, where the themes of Shahriar and Scheherazade intertwine for the last time.
The Christmas tale of Clara and her Nutcracker takes the listener into a magical world - through the Snow Kingdom to Configurenburg, where various dances welcome the guests to the festive ball.
