Director Rositsa Kostova for "Do Re Mi in Diapers" -
opera for babies at the Stara Zagora Opera House

Rositsa Kostova is the creator of "Do Re Mi in Diapers" - an opera for babies at the Stara Zagora Opera. The premiere will take place on 6 October, at 11.00 in the Foyer-Opera, the next performances are on 15 and 27 October.

Born in Stara Zagora, the talented director does not break her connection with her hometown. And now she returns again at the invitation of the director of the Stara Zagora Opera Ognyan Draganov to create a show that is designed for the most special audience - for children from 0 to 3 years. She is full of energy and enthusiasm, her eyes shining as she talks about what will happen in the small baby hall, which is now the reserved territory for the youngest spectators.

Why is it important to have such programs, how is classical music perceived by children and how does it change them, how does contact with the performing arts affect the shaping of their worldview? Why should we look for ways to attract young audiences to opera, to ballet, to classical music? Rositsa Kostova has her own considerable experience in the realization of performances and special programs for children. And she is happy to share her observations and expectations, opening the curtain sparingly for the upcoming concert-performance on October 6 at the Stara Zagora Opera House:

"Our children are growing up in difficult times, when more than ever the boundaries between culture and pseudo-culture, valuable and fleeting, art and kitsch have become blurred. That is why our mission, that of artists, to educate a proper criterion and taste for serious art is more important than ever. As an artist and a mother, creating performances for children is a mission and a responsibility for me.

And when you work for children from 0 to 3 years old, the mission also becomes a commitment. In this earliest period of child development, when the body and psyche are changing at a phenomenal rate, our task is to offer the most appropriate musical environment to our children. Scientists claim that babies respond to music already in the mother's womb. They begin to express themselves through music and rhythm from a very early age. Therefore, presenting a form such as the Do Re Mi Baby Concerts in Diapers makes sense for nurturing an aesthetic musical taste and creating a new generation of classical music lovers.
And is classical music appropriate for such a young age? In fact, defining classical music as difficult to listen to and requiring preparation is a myth that is instilled in us at a later age. There are many studies that point to the beneficial effects of classical music on the overall development of babies, from helping with coordination, psychomotor skills, speech formation, provoking imagination and creativity, developing emotional intelligence to its therapeutic function.

The entire team of "Do Re Mi in Diapers" has experience in creating various formats for children and each of us knows the importance of professionalism, sincerity and affection with which it is necessary to approach the youngest viewers. We know that children are the most demanding critics, expressing their opinions concretely and directly, without unnecessary inhibitions. However, we will all be meeting a baby audience for the first time. A real challenge!

The classical music in these baby concerts is accompanied by elementary motor activities, rhythmic and sound-matching games in which the babies, assisted by their parents and according to their desire and ability, join in or simply enjoy the magical music and react spontaneously. At the Do Re Mi in Diapers baby concerts we offer music and games and expect babies and their parents to simply have fun with us, because music is loved when it brings emotional delight, when it is fun. And we hope that tomorrow those same grown-up babies will have no prejudices or fears about entering the Opera House.

In our show, we tell the adventures of a baby caught up in the wondrous world of the Opera House. Where fabulous characters live and extraordinary things happen. This adventure is accompanied by many games and magical music, performed by the trio "Reverance" and the soloists of the State Opera-Stara Zagora - Neli Necheva, Nina Dimitrova, Teodor Petkov, Nikola Marulev, accompanied by Svetlana Deneva. The artist Dimo Kostadinov created a magical world for the little adventurers, which at the same time is a safe and secure environment for the craziest games."
